Originally known as the “Five Fields” way back in the Middle Ages, Belgravia was once a series of fields that were used for grazing animals. As today’s residents of SW1 are acutely aware, an awful lot has changed since then! With the exception of Belgrave and Eaton Square Gardens, there isn’t a lot of green space left and parking can be notoriously difficult.
At Metro Waste, coping with the everyday logistical difficulties of running a successful rubbish clearance business in Central London is something we take in our stride and parking/loading in Belgravia is all in a day’s work.
Our new fleet
As well as the multitude of other driving restrictions that already exist in Belgravia (and much of Central London), the recently introduced ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) laws are perhaps the most significant. These new laws cover all types of vehicles and are particularly strict when it comes to diesel cars and lorries. The new “Euro 6” rules pretty much exclude all but the newest of diesel vehicles from entering Belgravia without paying a heavy financial penalty. Because of this, many companies that have to operate in London every day have little option but to upgrade their entire fleet of vehicles.
Fortunately for us, we always keep our fleet of rubbish removal lorries up-to-date so the recent change in legislation doesn’t have a huge impact on us. Nevertheless, we’ve recently taken delivery of new skip and rubbish removal lorries to “future proof” our business and the one you can see at the top of this blog post in Belgravia is one of our latest 2019 additions. It goes without saying that it’s ULEZ and Euro 6 compliant so we’re doing all we can to keep London’s air as clear as we can.
